The Battle of Columbus

The Battle of Columbus was a very significant battle in the Civil War. It was considered to be the last battle of the Civil War. This war took place on April 16, 1865. At a place that was once known as Girard which is now known as Phenix City. The battle took place on the land of Girard and that’s why it was also known as the Battle of Girard. This battle took place because someone destroyed the telegraph lines that had the message that General Lee surrendered. Although they were unprepared, they still fought. The battel took place on a bridge so one side could have the advantage but at the end of the day they were the ones with the disadvantage. The troops of the Union saw the trap and had the chance to escape but now the bridge is totally destroyed to this day. This battle made Columbus and Phenix City the historic place they are today. http://www.americancivilwarstory.com/battle-of-columbus.html
