Phenix City was not the same city in the 1930’s as it is today. The old Phenix City was given the name Sin City for various reasons. The whole city was a hot mess with all the illegal activities and bad people running the town. Sin City’s law enforcement was corrupt, and they were blackmailed by gang members who owned the streets. Law enforcement constantly turned the other way to illegal things that were going on throughout the city. Phenix City was filled with prostitutes, gambling, and murders. By the end of the Sin City era Phenix City was in loads of debt. When local citizens tried to help clean up the city, the local gangs threatened them.
